BioMe Starter Care

A new system has no bacteria. Get it going with a start-up dose.

A biological activator for starting up a treatment system or septic tank for the first time, after desludging, after chlorine or after a long break. Non-pathogenic bacteria, four groups of enzymes and a starter nutrient get the biological processes going within 24 hours. You use it once, then switch to a maintenance product.

Sound familiar?

The tank smells after desludging, the new system won’t get going

A new tank is sterile: it has none of the bacteria that break down wastewater. When a tank is desludged, the tanker takes most of the useful bacteria away along with the waste. Without a start-up dose, the bacteria take weeks to recover, and in the meantime a crust, deposits and smells appear.

  • A new treatment system, with no bacteria yet
  • An unpleasant smell after the tank has been emptied
  • Chlorine or a chemical unblocker has got into the system
  • A long break: winter, a holiday home, a breakdown or servicing
How it works

Two doses, 2 days apart

  • Dissolve 150 g

Half the pack in a bucket of lukewarm water (30–40°C). Stir well.

  • Pour in straight away

All of it into the primary tank, system chamber or septic tank. Don’t store it.

  • Repeat after 2 days

The second 150 g dose on day 3, prepared the same way as the first.

After the start-up, switch to the BioMe maintenance product that suits your system: Septic Tank Balance for a septic tank, SBR Booster for an aerated system, BioMe for systems with soil infiltration for a system with a percolation area.

Don’t use boiling water: above 60°C the bacteria die. After chemicals (chlorine, caustic soda, bleach, unblocker), wait at least 48 hours and flush the system with water. After application, avoid chemicals for at least 7 days.

To be honest

What this product won’t do

  • It isn’t a maintenance product

It gets the bacteria going once. For a stable population in the long term, you need a BioMe product used regularly.

  • A double dose won’t speed things up

2 × 150 g is the optimal dose. More won’t speed anything up and can briefly worsen the water quality.

  • It won’t work without wastewater

Bacteria need food. The best time for a start-up is the day before the household moves back in.

FAQ

What our customers ask

Which systems can I use Starter Care in?

In all types of domestic treatment system: with a percolation area, aerated, hybrid, continuous flow, SBR, aerobic and anaerobic. And in septic tanks.

Does it replace a product used every week?

No. Starter Care is a start-up dose with a high concentration of bacteria, for a single start-up. Maintenance products such as BioMe Septic Tank Balance or BioMe SBR Booster are used weekly to keep the bacteria active.

When will I see results?

The bacteria activate within 24 hours. The crust, deposits and smell usually ease within 3–7 days of the second dose. Full stabilisation usually takes 2–4 weeks.

It smells at first. Is that normal?

Yes. You may notice a natural smell of decomposition: a sign the bacteria have started work. It goes once the bacteria have broken down the crust and deposits.

I have a holiday home. How do I use it?

After a break of more than 2 weeks, use both doses (2 × 150 g) before you start using the system again. The bacteria were selected to work at lower temperatures too, but always dissolve the powder in lukewarm water.
